What is KX-826?
KX-826 (Pyrilutamide) is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen. That means it targets androgen receptors and can treat conditions related to androgen activity, like androgenetic alopecia (hair loss) and acne vulgaris.
How does KX-826 treat acne?
Androgens play a significant role in sebaceous gland activity. When androgens bind to their receptors, they trigger an increase in sebum production, leading to clogged pores and inflammation. KX-826 can mitigate this effect by preventing androgenic stimulation of sebaceous glands.
Clinically Studied Results
The FDA approved the first AR antagonist for the treatment of acne in August 2020, which has since paved the way for the conducting of clinical trials for KX-826. Clinical trials for KX-826 are currently still ongoing, with studies indicating that the drug is well-tolerated and effective in
reducing symptoms of both androgenetic alopecia and acne.
